But that’s where my nerdiness comes in.

Pet Copywriting FAQs
-
A pet copywriter writes any and all of the words that help to sell products or services to pet owners, vets, retailers, and other pet professionals. As a pet copywriter, I write everything from website copy to product descriptions, leaflets, packaging, articles, white papers and more. I understand your pet audiences, whether thats fluff-loving owners or a technical vet, and can adjust the language to suit.
-
Pet marketing has rules that must be followed that a general copywriter won’t know. Claims relating to health, supplements, feed and medicines are overseen by the VMD and ASA—getting your wording wrong can be a big problem. As a specialist pet copywriter, pets are my passion; I’m a zoologist with a background in animal biomechanics and pet nutrition. I understand your pet product’s science, your audience, and the regulations, so your copy is persuasive and compliant first time.
-
Most pet copywriting projects vary hugely in what is required, so I quote per project. However, there are a few packages that are fixed; one is My Wagging Website Package. That’s £1,500 for five SEO-optimised, compliance-checked web copy pages. That includes voice-of-customer research, competitor and keyword research, and two rounds of revisions. Articles, product descriptions, emails and other copy are quoted per project, and retainers start at one day a month at £400 per day. (That’s slightly below the average for a UK freelance copywriter, according to the Pro-Copywriter’s annual survey. So, quite frankly, it’s a bargain!)
-
Yes, my Wagging Website Package covers five pages of pet copywriting, usually Home, About, Services, Contact and one other. It also includes customer interviews for voice-of-customer research, competitor and keyword research, and of course all the copy that resonates with your customers while sounding like you. You also get an implementation checklist to help it get found in search. Of course, it’s not just 5-page websites; I write pet website copy no matter what size your project is, from a little refresh to a 60-page beast. Just get in touch.
-
Yes, this is one of my pet copywriting specialisms. How to say all the things your product does, without saying all the things that will get you in trouble. I check your wording against Veterinary Medicines Directorate and Advertising Standards Authority rules to ensure your claims are compliant and your copy won’t put you in the pet marketing doghouse.
-
Yes. I write copy for pet brands, supplement and pharmaceutical companies, veterinary professionals and corporates, and service providers, which includes vet practices and other allied professionals. For more information, see my veterinary copywriter page.
-
Absolutely! I’m a horse-girl myself. I am an equine copywriter, as well as a pet and veterinary copywriter. The equine market is complex, with its own language, and the audience is very different from pet audiences. My equine knowledge helps me support equine health, nutrition, and therapy brands, along with accessories, attire, and lifestyle products in the equine world. If you sell to horse owners or equine professionals, see my equine copywriter page.
-
Of course. Every web copy piece starts with keyword research. I write SEO-friendly headings, meta titles and descriptions, and help the robots find you too. Regulations can mean you can’t use your ideal keywords, so I find compliant alternatives and help you build an SEO strategy that still reaches your audience. If you’re looking for SEO content such as blogs and search strategy, check out my SEO content page for blog bundles.

A pet copywriter focuses on the words and messaging, while an agency typically also handles design, paid ads and campaign management. I’m a bit of both. I do all of the pet copywriting, but will also help you build your strategy and manage your marketing if that’s what you need. Happy Tails also runs as a micro-agency, a group of pet-orientated creatives and marketing professionals, able to power your marketing without the big agency feel (or budget).
-
I’ll learn your tone of voice during our kick-off call, your existing content, but we’ll also work to ensure it resonates with your audience through customer research, interviews and from your reviews. Whether you need playful and pet-parent friendly or technical and clinical, the copy will sound like you, and the voice your customers resonate with.
-
It’s a monthly block of my time, from one day a month up to two days a week, for ongoing work like blogs, emails, product descriptions, VMD copy audits and SEO. You get priority booking and quick turnarounds, without the cost of hiring someone in-house.
-
It really depends on the project, but as an example, a 5 page website usually takes 3 weeks from the kick off call to the final proofread copy delivery. The main variables are how quickly I get your brief and feedback, and whether copy needs sign-off from your vet or regulatory team. Don’t worry though, we’ll agree a timeline before we start.
Ready to get cracking? Or still have questions?
Either way, let’s chat through your project over a cuppa.
